BARTLETT SMITH GRAY. son of Lee and Mary Keziah Smith
Gray, was born May 22. 1837, in Henry County. KY. Shortly after
his birth. the family moved to the Republic of Texas, settling
in Fayette County. Later, they moved to Bastrop County, and then
to Burleson County, where his father died. Two years later,
Bartlett and his mother moved to Williamson County, where he
lived the rest of his life. On Nov. 11, 1856, he married Sarah
Vianna Caskey (daughter of John Coffey and Adeline Tomlinson
Caskey), who was born April 1, 1842, in Giles County. TN. They
were the parents of 11 children. Vianna died Oct. 11, 1884.
shortly after giving birth to twin daughters, who also died.
On Aug. 21.1889. Bartlett married Mahalia Elizabeth Kelky Wyatt. To this marriage was born one son. Bartlett served as a private in Company D. 30th Texas Cavalry. Confederate States Army, during the Civil War. After his discharge at the close of the War, he spent the remainder of his active life engaged in farming. He died April 25. 1920, and is buried beside his first wife. Vianna, in the Florence Cemetery in Williamson County. |
